Nothing makes money more real than going on a hard-cash basis to the fullest extent possible. This is not the same as simply not debting. This is keeping your check-writing to an Absolute minimum—only what is most easily paid through the mail, such as rent and utility bills—and paying for everything else in cash, in real dollars and cents.if you do this—if you handle the actual fives, tens, twenties, fifties, and hundreds, paying real currency in as many transactions as you can—you will rapidly gain a vivid sense of the significance, use, management, power, and enjoyment of money. Most people who do this also find it provides them with a sense of freedom and of flue entitlement to their money.

WHERE IS IT WRITTEN THAT YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR MONEY?

“Work” is usually perceived as necessary drudgery: People work like a dog, they gotta make a living, they slave at the office. But with few exceptions, the most successful people are those who do what they most enjoy or what’s most meaningful to them. They don’t “work”—not in the sense of unpleasant toil or strain, waiting for the day to be over. What they do is engage in an activity they find significant or that gives them pleasure. It may be difficult, it may require effort or long hours, but that’s beside the point—because they’re doing what they want to do, not what they think they ought to or have to.

If you hate your job or are bored with it, you’re not likely to make much money at it in the long run, regardless of how potentially well paying it is. Sooner or later you will mess it up in some way or resign yourself to simply going through the motions, wondering now and then, with some wistfulness, why life turned out to be so gray, flat, and disappointing. Even if what excites you seems to offer little possibility of making reasonable money, in most cases you’re still better off doing it—you’ll find a way to get what you Sly need from it, and a large part of what you want.
